The dogs are REALLY INTERESTED in what is going on. They recognize that this is
their home and they LOVE to visit the construction site...ummm, smells
good!

Several "shear walls" were created to provide additional stability in case of
an earthquake and rough electrical infrastructure started to go in.
|
The new house will have fire alarms wired into each room, each with battery
backup...& "supplemented" with ordinary battery-operated smoke alarms as well!
|
The new dining room and pantry addition is starting to take shape, too. The
plywood is providing "sheer wall" strength on the pantry wall.
|
The electrical infrastructure is considerably upgraded from what we had before.
We are using 12 gauge wire, extra-heavy conduit, way more circuits than
"typical" but at least we know we're doing everything we can to prevent a
repeat performance!
|
We also have a second electrical subpanel going in the hallway to handle the
"burden" of electrical circuits in the bedroom wing of the house...and the new
house will have more than 5 times the number of circuits that we had before.
|
The heating and airconditioning ducting will feed through soffits inside the
house. We think this will be a great improvement over having a roof full of
huge silver tubing as we had before!
|
The rough plumbing is going in, too, and the tub in our guest bathroom has
arrived. We are using Kohler tubs & sinks with Grohe fixtures in the "Talia"
style. We have also selected a very nice limestone for the countertops.

This is what the construction project looked like on September 13, 2001,
exactly one year after the fire!
